Requirements

• Connection of all offices for data sharing.
• Reduction of Telecommunications costs with regard to voice communications between the various offices, and
• the implementation of a video conferencing system fro communications between the Goody's restaurants and the office

Solution

The above requirements were met with the creation of a voice-data private network connecting all four sites. The network was based on equipment manufactured by Cisco, Alcatel (voice-data) and PictureTel (video conferencing).

The project was completed in two phases. The first phase involved the implementation of the voice-data network. All connections are digital online with ISDN back-up lines for instances where the line is disconnected temporarily. All voice communications between the sites are accomplished via these connections. In this way telecommunications costs were reduced to a minimum.

The second involved the implementation of a H.320/H.323 video conferencing network, the first installation of its kind in Greece. The network allows LAN users with desktop or group video conferencing systems to connect to remote sites (Goody's restaurants) that are connected to the ISDN BRI network. A Multipoint Conferencing Unit was installed to allow multiple users to participate in a conference.
